SHOW AND TELL - THE CHANGING LANGUAGE OF EDUCATION

Manuel brings in a copy of California Assembly Bill 413, which changes current Education Code by replacing each use of “at-risk” with “at-promise.” This move reflects a pattern in education of shifting problematic terms like “achievement gap” to more inclusive and asset-minded terms like “opportunity gap.” Are we witnessing political correctness gone crazy or is this a worthwhile effort to be more mindful as we fling that educational jargon across our schools?
